More About My Formative Courses

Sustainability Honors Practicum

This class is for candidates of the Baird Sustainability Fellows at Dickinson College. It included a collaborative research project on vulnerability and adaptation strategies for the Planning Department of Cumberland County, in which I researched social vulnerability in relation to climate change. During this class I also led a class session on sustainability in relation to the Coronavirus pandemic and wrote a worldview essay on my personal worldview, which gave me a better understanding of my beliefs and how I have formulated them.

Practical Ethics

This class included discussions of animal ethics, environmental ethics, reproductive ethics, civil disobedience, and the ethics of mass incarceration and the death penalty. It showed practical applications for theoretical philosophy ideas. This course was formative for me because it introduced me to major philosophical writings and helped to shape my worldview into what it is now.

Environmental Policy

This course examined the effect of environmental policies on environmental quality, human health and the use of natural resources at local, national and international levels. It discussed how scientific knowledge, economic incentives and social values merge to determine how environmental problems and solutions are defined, how risks are assessed and how and why decisions are made.  This course gave me a better understanding of what environmental policy was and the process of it, which has influenced my career path.

Political Behavior

This course included readings and discussions on political socialization, ethnic political behavior, and personality influences on politics. It was a formative course for me because I was introduced to more critical thinking skills related to political science and was able to understand my political behaviors and what has influenced them through learning about different class topics.
